February 29 "Leap Day" is also the birthday of Leo von Klenze, court architect to Ludwig I of Bavaria.
Born in 1784, Leo von Klenze designed many of Munich's museums, as well as the imposing Walhalla outside of Regensburg. Perched above the Danube, the Walhalla is a hall of fame devoted to famous Germans.
The Avery Classics collection has many works by and about Leo von Klenze, including the Sammlung architektonischer Entwürfe für die Ausführung bestimmt oder wirklich ausgeführt von L. von K., which was published in Munich in 1830.
Avery staff will attend the Association of Architecture School Librarians (AASL) annual conference in Boston, March 2, 2012.
Jeff Ross (Avery Index) will present an update on the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals at a Friday morning session.
Congratulations to our colleague Thom Freedman (Built Works Registry Librarian) who has been awarded the AASL Frances Chen Conference Travel Award. He will present an update on the Built Works Registry (BWR) — a collaborative Avery, ARTstor and Getty project. Now in its second year of development, the BWR project is funded by an IMLS National Leadership Grant.
