Margaret Smithglass joins Avery Library

We are pleased to announce the appointment of Margaret Smithglass as the new BWR Librarian. Her first day at Avery was Monday, May 13th.

Margaret comes to us from Yale where she recently completed a year as Samuel H. Kress Fellow in Art Librarianship, Yale University: Haas Arts Library and Special Collections. Other professional experiences include work in image research, cataloging, teaching, and architectural design. She holds a BA from Towson University, an MArch from North Carolina State University, and an MLIS from McGill University School of Information Studies.
 

Margaret will work on project communication strategies and develop BWR metadata working with colleagues across the Built Works Registry partner institutions: Avery, ARTstor and the Getty Research Institute.

Avery at ARLIS/NA Annual Conference

Avery staff will attend the ARLIS/NA annual conference in Toronto, Mar. 29- Apr. 2, 2012.

Carole Ann Fabian, Avery Director, is the Conference Co-Chair for Programs and will also present an update on the Built Works Registry (BWR) — a collaborative Avery, ARTstor and Getty project. Now in its second year of development, the BWR project is funded by an IMLS National Leadership Grant. She is also the Co-moderator of the Future of Art Bibliography Initiative session at which Chris Sala, Avery Architecture Bibliographer, will be speaking on "Capturing the Web."

Ted Goodman will present an update on the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals at a Friday afternoon session. He is also the outgoing Chair of the Finance Committee.

Kitty Chibnik will be the Moderator of a session titled "Hot off the List: current issues on ARLIS-L."

Paula Gabbard, Avery Fine Arts Bibliographer will be attending many sessions and meetings.

AVERY at AASL

Avery staff will attend the Association of Architecture School Librarians (AASL) annual conference in Boston, March 2, 2012.

Jeff Ross (Avery Index) will present an update on the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals at a Friday morning session.

Congratulations to our colleague Thom Freedman (Built Works Registry Librarian) who has been awarded the AASL Frances Chen Conference Travel Award. He will present an update on the Built Works Registry (BWR) — a collaborative Avery, ARTstor and Getty project. Now in its second year of development, the BWR project is funded by an IMLS National Leadership Grant.
