Back in the Swing of Things

I hope everyone had a great Holiday break! Now that classes have started, I finally feel as though I am getting back into the rhythm of graduate life and I am getting increasingly excited for my last semester of school ever (I think!)  Life in the internship world has also been exciting this past month.  Thanks to Bob and Ashley I was able to attend an NVivo 10 tutorial given at Butler and really increase my knowledge of the software.  It was extremely helpful and opened my eyes to many of the features I haven’t had the opportunity to utilize in my first NVivo Project, and also helped me realize how I could put the tools I was already comfortable with to better use.

I’m also currently chugging away at creating the NVivo 9/10 user guide for the libraries.  Ashley and I envision it to eventually become a very user-friendly web guide.  The layout will be based off of NVivo’s Navigation View so that it maintains a clear and coherent order.  All the tools and functions of NVivo will be searchable and fully explained so that a new user will be able to discover not only how to use a tool, but why they might want to use that particular tool.  There will also be links to definitions of any NVivo terms that may pop up in an explanation, this link will lead back to the definition and explanation, or perhaps produce a bubble with the definition in it.  The overall idea is to make using the guide as simple as possible, while also being as informative as the user desires it to be.  If anyone has any suggestions, or wants to share either good or bad web-based user guide experiences, I’d really appreciate it!

I am also very excited about starting my second NVivo project, which will involve coding the Mayor’s press releases from his website.

I hope everyone has a great start of the semester!
