Join the Friends of the Columbia Libraries for an evening of conversation about film culture in New York in honor of Dan Talbot, film distributor and founder of New Yorker Films. The event will take place at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 22, in Room 523 of Butler Library, and is free and open to the public.
“Cinema in New York: an Evening in Honor of Dan Talbot” will feature Hikari Hori, associate research scholar in the Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures at Columbia University; Tom Kalin of the Film Division at Columbia University’s School of the Arts, and director of the film, Savage Grace; and Andrew Sarris, critic and author of The American Cinema: Directors and Directions, 1929–1968 and professor in the Film Division at Columbia University’s School of the Arts. Toby Talbot, co-owner and proud “matron” of The New Yorker Theater, will also be on hand with copies of her new book, The New Yorker Theater and Other Scenes from a Life at the Movies.
The talks will be moderated by Richard Peña, program director for the Film Society of Lincoln Center, director of the New York Film Festival, and professor in the Film Division at Columbia University’s School of the Arts.
