As a part of our educational outreach, we are proud to announce a new series of public lectures through a year-long course open to the public: Oral History Workshop. Recordings of these workshops will also be available in iTunes U!

The first podcast available is Helen Benedict’s talk on her recent book: The Lonely Soldier: the Private War of Women Serving in Iraq, based on a series of interviews with American soldiers who experienced sexual violence or harassment while in military service.  A play based on the book, The Lonely Soldier Monologues, was performed in New York City at The Theater for the New City and at La MaMa in 2009. The play will performed again on Feb. 5, 6 and 7, 2010 at La Mama. (www.lamama.org) Helen Benedict is a professor of Journalism at Columbia University.

Subscribe to the Oral History Research Office podcasts on iTunes U for more exciting lectures and broadcast events from the world of oral history at Columbia.
