Our Fall Term Services

As of today, Monday, August 31, 2020, Starr Library is back open. Seating is limited, and reservations are required.  At this time seat reservations are available to students only. Check out the Seat Reservation landing page for complete information on the Terms and Conditions for this service, and a link to the reservation site.

Stacks remain closed. Physical books may only be handled by Library staff. For access to physical books please use the Pick-up Service. At present all pick-up service is provided out of Butler Library (east entrance). Complete information about this service is available on the Pick-up Service page. For access to digital copies of small portions of publications (a journal article or book chapter), Scan-and-Deliver Service is available to all active current Columbia affiliates. CLIO records will show a Pick-up and/or Scan request button for eligible materials.

Our expanded online service offerings continue, including temporary access, through platforms such as HathiTrust, to many books currently not physically available. Links to those resources can be found in the bibliographic records in CLIO. We will also offer online orientation sessions and reference consultations on an as needed basis. You can find details of all online services and resources on the Your Libraries Online page.

Because of hygiene concerns, shared equipment is at present not available, so remember to bring your laptop. For the present, the Paw Printer is available only to students with a seat reservation, and has been converted to touch-less service (no more keyboard and mouse).

Starting Tuesday, September 8, 2020, we also hope to offer limited access to Rare Books and Special Collections, to active Columbia affiliates only, and by appointment only. If you wish to use rare books or special collection material, please contact us at least one week in advance at starr@library.columbia.edu to discuss your needs and set up your appointment.

Please visit the Libraries Status Updates page and this blog periodically to stay apprised of further developments, and do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have.
