On Friday May 23 Microsoft announced that it is ending its Live Search Books and Live Search Academic projects and that both sites will be taken down this week. (See http://blogs.msdn.com/livesearch/archive/2008/05/23/book-search-winding-down.aspx)

It is also ending all of its book digitization projects, including the work with Columbia that began this spring. Columbia’s books will remain online on the Internet Archive
Site (http://www.archive.org/details/ColumbiaUniversityLibraries). Columbia will also get copies of all of the digital versions which we can use as we see fit with no restrictions from Microsoft.
