The New York Times reports on computer science professor, Steve Bellovin’s latest discovery in the field of cryptology. Bellovin utilized the library system’s resources to discover the true origins of the one-time pad — a theoretically perfect form of encryption — and trace it back to 1882, thirty-five years before it was previously thought to be invented.
WNYC reports on a $627,000 grant that Columbia Center for Oral History received from The Atlantic Philanthropies. The grant will be used to will be used to expand the center’s staff and to help them take on new projects in public health, philanthropies and the arts.
Inside Higher Ed discusses the partnership between Columbia and Cornell Universities’ Libraries. Students, faculties and employees of each university will now enjoy complete borrowing privileges and access to resources at both universities’ libraries.
