Every semester the Libraries' host a variety of lectures, events, and symposiums to promote discussion, share knowledge, and further research in wide ranges of subjects and disciplines. Some of these events are recorded and posted to YouTube, so if you missed something you wanted to attend – you have a second chance! Of particular note this semester was Comic NY, held on March 24-25. Noted comics, academics, and scholars spoke during a series of panels, discussing the relevance of New York City in the comic world. Chris Claremont, writer of the "X-Men" series, also gave a keynote speech.
Another highlight was Standards & Statregies for Fair Use Decisions Inside Libraries & Universities, which was held on March 27. Copyright experts gave their opinion on the law, best practices, and risks surround copyright and fair use in academic environments.
So should you ever miss an event, be sure to check the Columbia University Libraries' YouTube channel for another opportunity to watch!
