Articles+ searches Summon, also known as Find Articles, a database of full-text journal and newspaper articles that also contains ebooks, dissertations, government documents, and some online manuscript material.
Search tips
Enclose exact phrases in quotes: vermeer “camera obscura”
Use quotes, a tilde (~), and a number to search for terms within a defined number of words: vermeer “mistress maid”~20 finds Vermeer anywhere in the record AND mistress within 20 words of maid (in either direction).
Use an asterisk (*) to find all possible endings to a word: polio* finds polio, poliomyelitis, poliovirus.
You can explicitly search a field using the syntax: “field:query.” For example, the search author:foner finds records with foner as an author.
Searchable fields:
- Title
- SubjectTerms
- Author
- Publisher
- PublicationTitle
- Volume
- Issue
- Language
- Notes
- ISBN
- ISSN
- DOI
Use AND, OR, NOT (All caps) and parentheses to construct Boolean searches:
author: foner AND (“civil war” OR reconstruction)
author: foner AND (“civil war” OR reconstruction)
Note
This Articles+ search lacks a full record view, and the ability to combine and manipulate facets. Use Find Articles for these features.
