Come Tour Our Library!

Start your year off right with a tour of Lehman Library, on the 3rd Floor of the SIPA Building at 118th & Amsterdam. We’re home to the Digital Social Science Center, Global Studies Division, and Center for Digital Research & Scholarship (CDRS).

Scanners at Lehman

There are six flat-bed scanners in Lehman library. One, with automatic document feeder for up to 12″ x 18″ material, is located in the Data Service in room 215.The five others are for 8.5″ x 11″ material and are located in the DSSC. Four of which are stand alone scanners, i.e for scanning only. The fifth is attached to a public workstation.

There is also one large-format sheet-fed scanner in the Data Service. The  Colortrac 5480e scanner has been acquired for digitizing maps and other large-format single sheet material.

MaRLI for PhD Students and Faculty

The Manhattan Research Library Initiative (MaRLI), enables Columbia doctoral students and full-time faculty  to borrow research materials from New York University Libraries and New York Public Library. See the MARLI website for more information

Scan & Delivery Service

Need a book chapter or article from Columbia Libraries' print collections?

Scan & Deliver: Electronic Document Delivery enables you to request electronic delivery of articles and book chapters from the general print collections of many of Columbia's Libraries. The service is available for book chapters and articles in the general print collections, with some exceptions.

To place a request:

1) Run a CLIO search for the book or journal you're looking for.

2) Choose the exact item you'd like from the results page

3) In the "Available from" menu on the item page, choose "Scan & Deliver"

4)  Follow the instructions and submit your request.

Lehman Library End of Semester Hours

Lehman Library will have extended library hours and study hall hours until the end of finals, May 16th as follows:

    Saturday                       10am – 10pm                 10pm – 4am

All service desks close 15 minutes prior to study hall beginning.

New Service – Journalism Library Video Chat

The Journalism Library is excited to launch a new cool service to assist you with your research – video chat reference – which will enable you to connect with a librarian using Skype or Google+ Hangouts.

Enjoy virtual face time and screen-sharing demonstrations, all from the comfort of your couch.  In addition to video chat "Walk-in Wednesdays," you may make evening and weekend appointments for video chat research assistance.

Faculty Document Delivery Service

Full-time faculty from the Columbia Morningside campus, Barnard, and Union Theological Seminary now can request electronic delivery of journal articles and book chapters from the general print collections on Morningside campus.

Resource Spotlight – Ashley Jester

Please welcome Ashley Jester, the new Data Services Coordinator in the Social Sciences Libraries!  Ashley holds a PhD from Stanford in Political Science with advanced specializations in international relations, organizational behavior, and political economy.  She's here to assist you with your research, from the initial steps of background research and finding data to analysis and interpretation of data.  She's great with Excel, STATA, SPSS, R, and you can find her staffing the reference desks at the Digital Social Science Center (DSSC) and Data Services in Lehman Library.  She's also available for individual/small group meetings and consultations, so don't hesitate to call upon Ashley!, (212) 854-0514

Journalism Library Hours Friday, December 14th
